Hello,

I hope this finds you well.

A random draw for my newest piece, Foliage & Atmosphere, is now under way. The draw will end on Sunday March 22nd.

Foliage & Atmosphere is a mediation in green and blue, woven with organic cotton-linen and hand-dyed raw silk. This piece measures 5.13 meters in length.

You can find more information and enter the draw here.

With that business out into the world, I want to share a brief note about another project that I have been working on. Last summer I started to paint, with watercolors. Quiet explorations into a new way of working and thinking. During this time I also endeavored to create a series of plates of botanical drawings that I could print with our etching press. These studies of plants were/are a leaning experience of peering deeper into the perfect forms of beings, perfectly adapted to their environments.

In the past months I have been working on printing the plates that I 'scratched' and learning how to bind my paintings and prints into one-of-a-kind books. Below is a photo of the prototype book I just finished to practice the sewing and construction methods I will use for my watercolor books.

It feels a bit scary, but I am preparing to share my new work in April, with an opening show at Truth or Consequences Contemporary on April 11th. This show will be a container for the paintings, etchings and sculptures (in ceramic, fiber and glass) that have come to life in the past year. Please stay tuned, as I will also be sharing these things online at https://jeannieortiz.com

Thank you for being here and following along on my journey.

Wishing you all the best,
