Happy Friday,
I hope that you are having a beautiful day! Today big, puffy, moisture-laden clouds rolled in to Southern New Mexico, and we are all hoping with all our hearts that some rain reaches the ground.
I am very excited to share TWO things with you today.
- One is that I'm working on a new project, a kids' book!!! (please see below the photos for more information, I'd love your, and your little-one's ideas!)
- And the other is that I will have 8 naturally dyed sculptural merino scarves available for sale TOMORROW.
The seven scarves and one cowl will all be available for purchase on Saturday May 3rd. They will be appearing in my online shop throughout the 24 hour period of that day so that they are accessible to people in all time zones. (I hope) If you would like to pre-view them head over to my website https://jeannieortiz.com where you can see detailed photos of all eight pieces.
You will be able to purchase them here - https://torc.art/collections/handloom

I am feeling very excited about my kid's book-in-progress called 'Can You Believe...?' <working title > It is inspired by my darling 4 year-old niece who I spend as much time as possible caring for, and being with. (Along with her precious 2 year old brother)
About a month ago I took them for a run on a beautiful spring day by a river. As I pushed them in a stroller they were babbling, I was telling them stories and the four-year-old began to tell me a string of outrageously wonderful things...can you believe a bear flying through the forest with giant wings...can you believe a tree playing in it's own leaves....can you believe.....
And so my own imagination began to explode with thoughts, and the idea of the book was born. I have begun making illustrations. I will be creating the images with the dry-point-intaglio printing process. These will then be scanned and turned into the book. (The prints will also be available at a later date)
So here is where YOU come in.
Id love to hear what wonderfully fantastical things your little ones have dreamed up! AND I'd love to include a few of them in my book!
Please send me their ideas to jeannieortizthreads@gmail.com
*If your little ones idea is chosen I will contact you to sign a consent to use it as the basis for an illustration for the book.
Wishing you all a very happy weekend,
Jeannie
