New Year - Under a Waining Crescent

Hello all,

I hope that this finds you well, finding deep love and quiet daily in whatever way it may come to be for you. This year I have my heart set on changing patterns of thinking that are not helpful for happiness. I endeavor to work as hard as ever (because I do love my work) but to not put energy into worrying about all the things I cannot do. Though I know there is never 'enough time' I desire to keep my thoughts with the present moment. To revel in what is before me each moment and not to project into the unknown future of what-ifs.

I am looking forward to sharing what is happening in my creative world on a more regular basis through these emails, as it seems sharing on social media is a black hole of dead ends. Finding new ways of sharing that feel good is the way forward.

In my world of weaving I have a few things in the works - Ive just warped my little loom (as shown above) with beautiful naturally dyed bulky merino, so I will have a batch of merino scarves and cowls available for sale in about a month. I will be weaving and working at Truth or Consequences Contemporary every Saturday from 11-5, and occasionally throughout the week as well. On my big loom I am just about to finish up a huge section of warp that I've been working on since last year. Most of the pieces are customs but I will have one large weaving and an etherial scarf for sale quite soon.

Naturally dyed bulky merino wool, ready to morph into cozy scarves

Every year I measure and weigh everything that comes off my looms, mostly just out of curiosity and a compulsion to document things.

My totals for 2024 are -
285.66 feet (87.07 meters) of fiber woven in length
34.9 pounds (15.8 kilos) of fiber used

A glimpse of the all plant-fiber piece that will be for sale via random draw soon.

Above is a little vision of the all organic cotton-linen and cotton piece that will be for sale via random draw soon. Hopefully as soon as the end of next week, so stay tuned.

Desert Luna - Silver Moon, turquoise, tourmaline, jasper and quartz adornment by Jeannie Ortiz

I love creating pieces of adornment. I love arranging the colors and forms, engaging in the subtle energies of the earth-materials to create works that bring the wearer into their bodies. To feel themselves and their innate powers.

At the heart of this piece shown above is a sterling silver moon hand made as a collaboration with myself and my partner Kyle Parker Cunningham. The beads joining the moon are nuggets of turquoise, map jasper, black tourmaline and rutile quartz. You can find it, along with my other creations, in person at T or C Contemporary or in our online shop.

The winter sun has now been pouring into my south-facing studio long enough this morning that it is probably warm enough that my fingers won't freeze while I work, so off I go.

Thank you for being along on this ride.
Wishing you all the best,
Jeannie
